Optimizing Server Performance

Reduce lag and increase TPS with these configuration tweaks.

1. Use Paper or Purpur

The single biggest improvement you can make is switching from Vanilla to Paper. It handles chunk loading and entities much more efficiently.

2. Pre-generate your World

Generating new chunks is CPU intensive. Use a plugin like Chunky to pre-generate your world border before players join.

3. Optimize Configuration Files

Adjust the following settings in your files:

bukkit.yml

spawn-limits: Reduce monsters to 50-70.
chunk-gc.period-in-ticks: 400

spigot.yml

view-distance: 6-8 (Lower is better for performance).
entity-activation-range: Reduce animals/monsters slightly.

4. JVM Flags

Our servers come pre-configured with Aikar's Flags, which are the industry standard for garbage collection optimization. You generally do not need to touch these.
